We are going to change blogging servers, because as I quickly found out today, you can't access any website with the word "blog" in its title from China. Oh yes, by the way, we are in Beijing!!

Our new blog site is krivesinchina.wordpress.com

In the meantime, our flight across the Pacific was uneventful. We ate, watched movies, and slept. Our baggage arrived safely, something which frequent travelers don't take for granted.

China was quite a bit different than I expected. We haven't traveled very far yet. Our friends live close to the airport. But the grass was very green everywhere, buildings were very spread out, and the roads were well-maintained. Once we go downtown I'm sure we'll get a different impression.

Now, the journey has begun.

Well, I am in the Vancouver International Airport as I write. We are on our way to China! We are so excited. We've had a few complications, but in the end, everything has worked out.

Here are some more photos from our trip to Yellowstone National Park. We are still in California. We just spent two weeks with Noel's family in Arroyo Grande. Now we are in Petaluma with my family.

One week ago on Friday, we had all of our worldly belongings spread out next to our motorhome for packing. After squeezing it all in, we took a trip to the C&O Canal National Park in Maryland.

Well, after two days of packing and another day of moving, we're on the road. We didn't actually make it that far. We spent the weekend with some good friends of ours in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Tomorrow morning we'll head for Lansing, Michigan, to spend the 4th of July with my some of my dad's family and my mom's family. I will say that I am very excited not to be working tomorrow!

Thanks to everyone who came to our going away party last week. It was wonderful to have so many people send us off. We've made many wonderful friends during our time here in Virginia. We've posted a whole bunch of photos here.

China?!

A trip - to China?! That's right, we are moving. We have absolutely loved our time in Washington D.C., and now its on to the next chapter in our life.

Jonathan was accepted into the International MBA program at the prestigious Tsinghua University (at least, its very prestigious in China.) We are leaving the DC area the end of June to visit family in California for a month or so, and then moving to Beijing in mid-August.

But why China?

This trip - really this move - is going to fulfill several of our goals, and dreams, that we both have. In fact, even before we met, both Noel and I had plans to live in China. I also wanted to pursue a graduate degree at some point, and finally narrowed it down to an MBA.

I looked into MBA programs in the US, and did apply to one. However, the timing for Tsinghua University could not be more perfect. Started in 1997 in conjunction with MIT's Sloan School of Managment, the Tsinghua School of Economics and Management has become the top MBA program in China. After two years, I hope to not only have an MBA, but also have a fluency in Chinese and the Chinese culture that will be beneficial to both of us in the future.

Selling our things

Wow, nothing brings an upcoming move to your attention as much as having to sell lots of stuff. (If anyone is interested, we have a car, a dining room set, and a bedroom set.) We are extremely excited though. It will be a huge change, certainly an intimidating one. But this trip is also a chance to fulfill some of our dreams - to travel internationally, learn about Jonathan's heritage, learn Chinese, get an MBA. It's all coming together.

As you can see, we obviously like our car, and are very sad to sell it.
